Hunger Games Fashion

Even though my book club is reading the book this month - I just couldn't help myself! Hunky and I caught a matinee viewing of the Hunger Games yesterday. The fashion in the Capitol was just to die for! Seriously - those colors and those wild eyelashes, make up and hair. Sign me up to stay there! Even though the character Effie Trinket made me super uneasy I loved her outrageous looks.

Okay - I'll admit it - I could have done with a little less murder and a little more perusing the Captiol and admiring the fashion...

I'm not one for violent movies but I must tell you I spanned every emotion possible during this film. No joke - I even had to get up at one point and get a snack --- hunger, sadness, joy, fear, anger, anticipation what a morning! It truly is a film worth viewing.

Anthropologie is My Study Break

A girl can only study/work on a project/thesis for so long until one of the following things is bound to happen:
  • She gets completely burnt out.
  • Her eyeballs dry up and fall from their sockets.
  • Inspiration flees her body totally.
  • The caffeine in her system is at such a high level that she is unable to type/think/function.
  • Someone asks her a question about her upcoming wedding and she refuses to comment.
  • She forgets what her lovely little apartment looks like because the computer lab is now her home.
  • Although there are thousands of songs on any given Pandora station she now knows them all, in order, every time.
... or all of those things happen...

It's been a rough week so far thesis wise, that's why I chose to spend some time browsing Anthropologie... enjoy!

Inspiration: Dandelions

I am so very excited to be able to share an almost completed 3rd piece for my Senior Fashion Line. (If you missed them you can see the concept design and 2nd gown.) Last night I did some major work and am only left with a few adjustments. I fell in love with this dandelion print and thought it gave a great retro with a modern twist vibe... This dress might be one of my entry pieces for the Project Runway Event I'm involved with on Friday! (Thoughts?)

This is when the buckram was added for the skirt in order to make it poof out.

I am pretty much obsessed with visible zippers right now.

I then added a dandelion fabric skirt over the buckram - ballgown anyone?

I'm really excited to find projects for the 18" I cut off the bottom! Now the dress is just about tea length and will be complete as soon as I sew the fabric skirt onto the bodice and buckram.

The back is probably my favorite part. Also - if you are feeling inspired at all there is a sale on cotton prints over at fabric.com!!!

It looks like dandelions are inspiring everyone - here are some of my favorite dandelion items from Etsy...

EarlyBright has this fabulous necklace in store - so precious.

These Dandelion stud earrings are just lovely and delicate from Lana0Crystal.

You've got to click on this photo so you can see what these little votives look like all lit up - fabulous from wapa.

Inspiration - For Eyes

This is one of my favorite inspiration pages from my personal collection:

Keeping track on inspiration is important. It allows your audience to perhaps gain a deeper understanding of your design. It helps you track your own design process and can also inspire future ideas.

Here's to you inspiration page!
